DJ and producer Merca Bae returns once more for a third iteration of Merca Zip, a compilation of tracks that are brought together by the recurring concept of ‘compression’: its theme, a nod to the fact that the record is created and produced in a short period of time at the end of each year. Throughout 8 tracks and 3 bonuses, Merca Zip 22 delves into a variety of genres ranging from Bass and Reggaeton, to Drum & Bass and Dancehall.
With the help of generative AI tools, we created an artwork presenting the compilation’s now-signature clamp in the style of 80s and 90s still life photography, an atmosphere that harks back to the primordial club, house and techno scenes through a nostalgic and somewhat retrofuturistic lens. The composition was then tied together with a typographic approach that falls somewhere between analogue and digital, and maximizes its expressiveness through a compact typesetting and eerie glow – traits that converge in a cohesive atmosphere.
The result: a cover that’s strong and unique, and an apt representation of the club culture the compilation is an ode to.
